In this album, Hélène Grimaud takes us to Salzburg, where she fascinatingly juxtaposes Mozart and the Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov (b. 1937). Both Mozart’s and Silvestrov’s works are based on melancholy and hope, sadness and exuberance.

Hélène Grimaud has long had a passion for Silvestrov’s music, which some describe as post-modern or even neo-classical. “Like Arvo Pärt (in her debut DG album “Credo”), Silvestrov’s music is harmonic, which is by no means a weakness, but an enlightenment in itself and very powerful in its simplicity”, she says.
